Day of broken handicaps at Wagin

4/09/2008 3:57:00 PM
AN EXCELLENT field of 40 starters hit off in rather cold conditions in the Albany City Motors sponsored par competition last Saturday afternoon.

A feature of the day was that more than 25 per cent of the field broke their handicaps, obviously due to the dry conditions with plenty of run on the course.

The winner of the A grade was Gary Flint with a fine plus nine, and the runner-up was Phillip Sprigg, returning a plus eight.

Other good scores in the A grade were from Brian Patterson plus seven and Gerard Hegarty and Ken Adams both on plus six.

The B grade winner was a tight affair with victory going to Trevor Storey plus six on a countback from Geoff Cheriton and Greg Stephens.

The ladies’ winner was Jenny Ewen on plus eight, with the runner-up trophy going to Noelene Tuffin on plus five.

Novelties went to Paul James two, Ken Adams two, Trevor Patterson two, Jeff Riseborough, Geoff Cheriton and Merv Stonehouse.

Representatives of Albany City Motors in Jayden Ewen, Scott Leary, Terry Jolly and Dan Widdison participated in the day’s play. The club thanks them sincerely for their sponsorship and fellowship.

Next Saturday’s competition is a stableford sponsored by Gull Fuels, with the draw for partners from around 11.45am.
